Mas de Libian
Family-owned since 1670, the vineyards have always been cultivated in Libian. This farmhouse is located in St Marcel d'Ardèche on the right bank of the Rhône, at the very end of the Ardèche gorges. Wine became the main activity in 1970 with the construction of a cellar by Jean-Pierre Thibon. Organic farming—tilling the soil, hoeing by hand in the spring, using copper and sulfur—has always been practiced here, and Mas de Libian took a major step forward in 2005 with the estate's official certification as biodynamic. Today, two of the family's daughters run Mas de Libian: Hélène and her husband, and Catherine, not to mention their parents and Nestor and Bambi, the beautiful Franc Comtois horses!
The Mas de Libian vineyard now covers 25 hectares, where Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Viognier, Clairette, and Roussanne grapes flourish. The work carried out in the spirit of traditional farming has resulted in several wines: one white, one rosé, and four reds with AOC Côtes du Rhône classification, which complement each other perfectly and enable Libian to thrive and pass on its heritage.
