“This year, the estate ‘sees red’ with this cuvée that openly reveals youthful aromas of plum, fig, and spices. These rich aromas are carried through to the palate, which is highly concentrated, warm, full-bodied, and rather rounded, before giving way to beautiful, firm, and refined tannins on the finish . Character and potential. " (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017)

About the wine:
Another favorite for the Philips following last year’s 2014 Grand Bécassier Vieilles Vignes white. This year, the estate “sees red” with this cuvée, which bursts forth with youthful aromas of plum, fig, and spices. Delicious aromas are extended by a palate of great concentration—warm, full-bodied, and rather rounded—before beautiful, firm, and refined tannins unfold on the finish. Character and potential.
About the estate:
Éric Philip, who established his business in 1995, and his son Sylvain manage a vast 130-hectare vineyard—primarily in Sabran—divided between the Rochemond and Grand Bécassier estates. They produce Côtes-du-Rhône and village wines that frequently feature prominently in these pages, often ranking among the top selections.

I was a little disappointed by this wine. It’s a bit rough around the edges and lacks depth.

Served in February 2017 with a mild dish combining meat and fish, without sauce, followed by cheese. Everyone loved it.

Very disappointed with this Hachette "favorite." The wine seems immature without necessarily having that fresh, fruity character. Too bad.
