age-worthy wine

“Regal, with its deep notes of spices and dark fruits!”

“The 2021 Gigondas Le Pas De L'Aigle, the flagship wine of this outstanding estate, is made almost entirely from Grenache (with 10% Syrah) and undergoes extended aging in large oak casks. This gem offers a magnificent nose of ripe black raspberries, blackberries, sandalwood, and Provençal garrigue. Although it fits the vintage’s fresher, medium-bodied style, it displays tremendous depth on the mid-palate, ripe and polished tannins, and an excellent finish. The 2021 vintage in Gigondas couldn’t be better, and this wine is very appealing now, but it will age well for a good decade. " (Jeb Dunnuck 2023)

Wine rated 92/100

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

This is the largest and likely one of the oldest estates in Gigondas, run by Pierre Amadieu, the current owner and one of the most dedicated figures in the village. The estate boasts breathtaking vineyards in La Machotte, Le Pas de l’Aigle, and Romane, among others. At an altitude of 400 meters, the Grenache grapes are harvested at full ripeness to be fermented and aged for an extended period in large oak casks, some of which are over half a century old. The other appellations offered are treated with the same care. A true Favorite rosés, the reds demonstrate their aging potential, while the whites possess admirable freshness.

About the wine:

Bright ruby red. The expressive nose initially offers notes of fresh red fruit and potpourri, which develop into exotic spices and incense. Deep yet lively, the juicy and pleasantly sweet flavors of raspberry and cherry tighten up in the second half of the year. Silky tannins shape a surprisingly long and supple finish that leaves behind sweet notes of spice cake and lavender drops.
