Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)
About the estate:
For four generations, this estate has been gradually expanding. Today, it spans 78 hectares, primarily in the Drôme Provençale region, around Grignan and Vinsobres. Consistently high in quality, the wines beautifully express their terroirs, thanks to expert barrel aging. The wines of the Grignan-les-Adhémar appellation are among the region’s finest examples. Of particular note is the excellent consistency of the samples tasted from the 2017 and 2018 vintages.

About the estate:
Based in a former farmhouse on the Château de Grignan estate, brothers Jean-Luc and Claude Monteillet—who are also truffle farmers—have been running this 70-hectare family estate since 1987. The estate is well known for its Grignan-les-Adhémar wines and also produces Vinsobres and IGP wines. The transition to organic farming is currently underway.

A medley of grape varieties for a medley of flavors! Smooth, round, almost rich on the palate, with yellow fruit and floral notes. A short finish enhanced by acidity. Dominated by fully ripe Viognier, the wine lacks a bit of freshness for my taste. Rating = 3.3. This atypical CDR was paired at 11° with pan-seared trout with almonds.
