Muscat de Beaumes de Venise: refinement and intensity

The Muscat de Beaumes de Venise appellation is a Rhône Valley appellation that was granted AOC status in 1945. Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a naturally sweet wine of worldwide renown, produced in a terroir protected by the Dentelles de Montmirail, which is ideal for growing both small- and large-grain Muscat grapes.

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise sweet wines are golden in color, with aromas of flowers and exotic fruits, and a lovely long finish. Made from blends of small white and black Muscat grapes, their color can vary from amber to rosé and even purple.

With nearly 10,000 hectoliters, the Muscat de Beaumes de Venise AOC offers a quality that guarantees its international reputation at the highest level. The wines offered by Maison Perrin et Fils prove that this reputation is well deserved.
The origin of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This sweet wine reveals all the flavors of small-grain Muscat grapes. Widely appreciated in the 18th century, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise regained popularity in the 19th century. Its golden color charmed many, including Pope Clement IV. Gradually, this Muscat became popular among wealthy families and the nobility. In 1943, this sweet and fruity wine was awarded an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) designation.

Method of growing Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This Muscat, also known as "Muscat des Papes," is grown on marly, sandy, or clayey soil. The importance of soil in wine growing is particularly significant in producing a delicate, fruity Muscat. The small Muscat grapes must be bathed in sunlight and soak up its rays. Light plays a key role in this crop. Sun exposure affects the sugar content of this Muscat, which is a selection criterion. Muscat must contain more than 252 grams of sugar per liter to be accepted as an appellation. In addition, the small Muscat grapes are generally harvested by hand.
