Muscat de Beaumes de Venise: refinement and intensity

The Muscat de Beaumes de Venise appellation is a Rhône Valley appellation that was granted AOC status in 1945. Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a naturally sweet wine of worldwide renown, produced in a terroir sheltered by the Dentelles de Montmirail, which is ideal for growing both small-grained and large-grained Muscat grapes,

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise sweet wines are golden in color, with aromas of flowers and exotic fruits, and a lovely, lingering finish. Made from blends of small-grained white and black Muscat grapes, their color can range from amber to rosé and even purple.

With a production of nearly 10,000 hectoliters, the Muscat de Beaumes de Venise AOC offers a quality that ensures its international renown at the highest level. The wines offered by Maison Perrin et Fils demonstrate that this reputation is well-deserved.
The origins of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This sweet wine showcases all the flavors of small-grained Muscat grapes. Widely enjoyed in the 18th century, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise regained popularity in the 19th century. Its golden hue charmed many, including Pope Clement IV. Gradually, this Muscat became popular among prominent families and the nobility. It was in 1943 that this sweet, fruity wine was granted an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC).

Method for growing Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

This Muscat, also known as "Muscat des Papes," is grown on marly, sandy, or clay soils. The importance of soil in viticulture is particularly evident when producing a delicate, fruity Muscat. The small Muscat grapes must be bathed in sunlight and soak up its rays. Sunlight plays a key role in this cultivation. Indeed, the presence of the sun affects the sugar content of this Muscat, which is a selection criterion. The Muscat must contain more than 252 grams of sugar per liter to be accepted under the appellation. Furthermore, the small Muscat grapes are generally harvested by hand.
