3*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

“Rimage” is the translation of “vintage” and the term used by the people of Banyuls to refer to the “wine of the year.” Made from Grenache Noir, with long maceration, aging on lees, and a few months in oak barrels, the result is a deep, dark wine that’s very open with red fruit flavors, featuring the toasty notes from oak aging and the softer, subtly milky notes from regular stirring on the lees. On the palate, it is rich, smooth, and full-bodied, with remarkably refined tannins; cherry and blackcurrant notes are complemented by a savory, spicy touch. A marvel paired with dark chocolate or sweet-and-savory dishes.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2018)

About the wine:

"Rimage" is the translation of "vintage" and the term used by the people of Banyuls to refer to the "wine of the year." Black Grenache, long maceration, aging on lees, a few months in oak barrels—and here it is: deep black, very open with red fruit flavors, featuring the toasty notes from oak aging and the softer and subtly milky notes from regular stirring on the lees. The palate is rich, creamy, and full-bodied, with remarkably refined tannins; cherry and blackcurrant meet a savory spicy note. A marvel paired with dark chocolate or sweet-and-savory dishes.

About the estate:

This Banyuls estate dates back to 1611! Jean-Louis Berta-Maillol took over from his father in 1996, followed by his brothers Michel and Georges in 2003 and 2009, respectively. Their 15 hectares of vineyards cling to the schist-rich slopes of the Baillauri Valley, laid out in terraces.

Tasted in February 2020 as part of a blue cheese platter. Deep, brilliant color. Aroma of overripe black fruits. Long, balanced finish. Magnificent.
