“A meal all on its own!”

“A textured, fruity, and chalky red with notes of berries, dried thyme, bay leaves, roasted meat, and cooking spices. It is medium-bodied with powdery tannins. It displays a juicy, fruity character at the core and a more serious development toward a chewy finish.” (James Suckling 2024)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Recently taken over, this estate spans some twenty hectares and presents a very modern image, both in the winemaking process and in its marketing approach, featuring “inspired” packaging and, above all, a boutique-bistro on the port of Banyuls where visitors can sample the wines in their natural setting. Nestled in the heart of the Roume Valley, the winery receives grapes from seven plots spread across different terroirs within the appellation, allowing for complementary interactions during winemaking. While their marketing is very savvy, in the vineyard, traditional cultivation methods are preserved, with the vines primarily trained in the gobelet or échalas styles.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Jacques Piriou and Romuald Peronne—the winemaker—joined forces to purchase Dom. Saint-Sébastien in 2008, renaming it Clos Saint-Sébastien in 2014 following the acquisition of Clos Xatard. They made a grand entrance into the Guide with their Collioure wines. In Banyuls, they run a terrace restaurant facing the harbor, Le Jardin de Saint-Sébastien, and offer a boat tour to explore their 20-hectare terraced vineyard from the sea. Their menu features exclusively Collioure and Banyuls wines.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Posted on October 2, 2025

The attack is clean and crisp, followed by a mid-palate that is tannic, textured, and full-bodied, yet underpinned by such striking acidity that it struggles to find balance. A salty minerality comes through in the rather brief finish. Overpriced. Score = 3.3.
