“ “Charles Perez planted Grenache Noir on a small sandy plot in his organic vineyard. He has just crafted a unique gastronomic rosé from it, in the spirit of a ‘blanc de noir.’ The Grenache gains body through aging in new Austrian oak barrels, while the finish remains lively.” (Terre de Vins - Sept. 2017)

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
South of Perpignan, Charles Perez has been running his estate since 2008 in the hamlet of Nyls, in the Aspres region: 25 hectares of organic vineyards spread across three hills within a 110-hectare estate. For his reds, his blends highlight Syrah. This leading figure in the wine region is “sketched” by a different artist each year to illustrate his labels. The same goes for his family members. The Catalan Mouton Rothschild, so to speak!

A dull wine that seems past its prime. At over €20 a bottle, it’s very disappointing.

Strange nose, with vague, mineral, and floral notes all at once. Not particularly engaging, and the palate isn’t either. Very acidic on the attack, followed by a distinct body that’s hard to describe but really not very pleasant. The effort is there, but the result isn’t.
