"The expression of the terroir"

Excellence reflects the full potential of the Aspres terroir, so dear to Mas Becha. On the nose, the freshness of the mountains comes through in menthol and fresh herb aromas, while summer sunshine is evoked by notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and blueberry. The velvety, rich palate is the result of meticulous work. Best enjoyed with your eyes closed!

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, but where we are unable to give an overall opinion on the style of the entire range)

About the estate:

This estate, which is as original in its marketing approach as it is in its wine style, produces vintages with amusing labels that often stick in the memory. The Perez family travels, reflects, and is beginning to find the path to greater recognition for its products. The estate is a good source of powerful, colorful reds, which are sure to fuel debate with their often original profiles and consistently high levels of maturity.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

South of Perpignan, Charles Perez has been running his estate since 2008 in the hamlet of Nyls, in the Aspres region: 25 hectares of organic vines planted on three hills within a 110-hectare estate. His red blends feature Syrah. This leading figure in the wine industry is "sketched" by a different artist each year to illustrate his labels. The same goes for his family members. The Catalan Mouton Rothschild, so to speak!

Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100

About wine:

The Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Les Aspres Excellence 2021 is mainly composed of Syrah (there are small amounts of Grenache and Mourvèdre) and was aged in vats. This is another juicy wine from Perez, with a deep purple color and bright red and blue fruits supported by notes of pepper, spring flowers, iron, and a hint of leather. It opens up nicely with time in the glass, is medium-bodied to full-bodied, very pure, and has firmer tannins. Give it a year or two and enjoy it until around 2030.
