Le Roc des Anges - Segna de Cor 2013

Luminous. That’s surely the adjective that best describes Roc des Anges, both in terms of the style of the wines and the modern, aesthetically pleasing winery built by Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet. They built their estate from the ground up, and today it spans 45 hectares under production. These wines are highly drinkable, with relatively low alcohol content for the region; careful viticulture and a well-timed harvest ensure the wines never feel heavy. Biodynamic farming accounts for part of this uniqueness in the Roussillon region, as does the very distinctive terroir of Montner—featuring very fine schist that behaves like sand. This estate consistently delivers some of the most delightful dry wines in the entire department.

The 2013 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Segna de Cor is a blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah aged in concrete tanks. With an ink-black/purple color, it offers vibrant notes of black and blue fruits, licorice, and spicy aromas, with medium-bodied richness and a fresh, clean finish. It should be ready to drink upon release and will continue to improve over the next 3 to 5 years.

The 2013 reds are sound and well-balanced: Segna de Cor, with its tender, fresh fruit, is both refined and early-maturing.
