Le Roc des Anges

Le Roc des Anges, located in Montner, was founded in 2001 by Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet, who also own the Les Terres de Fagayra estate in Maury. The name comes from a Carignan vineyard planted on a quartz vein. A hillside with white soil, nestled among black schist: the locality is called “Roc Blanc.” Thus, angels were chosen to symbolize this quartz vein, and Roc Blanc became Le Roc des Anges.

The 25-hectare vineyard of the Le Roc des Anges estate is primarily planted with Mediterranean grape varieties cultivated at low yields (an average of 17 hl/ha). It sits on shallow, well-drained schist soils that encourage deep root growth. Work in the vineyard is carried out in harmony with the terroir: the entire vineyard is organically farmed. In 2011, the vineyard transitioned to biodynamic farming.

Work in the cellar is a natural extension of the work done in the vineyard. Simplicity is the guiding principle. Aging is carefully managed, and many Roc des Anges wines are aged in concrete tanks to allow them to breathe and preserve the fruit.
