Château de la Mar
In the town of Jongieux, at the foot of the Alps, on the left bank of the Rhône behind Le Bourget-du-Lac, stands the Château de la Mar, dating back to the Middle Ages. The estate and its 7 hectares of vineyards lie at the heart of the Marestel cru appellation, which covers a total area of 22 hectares and is the jewel in the crown of the Jongieux vineyards. This hillside is situated on the slopes of Mont de la Charvaz; its terraces are said to be the steepest in the wine world (according to Robert Parker). Its soils consist of Kimmeridgian marl-limestone scree. Château de la Mar benefits from a full west-facing exposure and a microclimate provided by its proximity to the Rhône. The ideal and privileged sunlight ensures that the grapes reach their full potential here. At Château de la Mar, each plot is harvested and sorted by hand, ensuring optimal health at harvest time. The partially grassed-over vineyards are managed using sustainable agriculture, makingthe AOC Roussette de Savoie Cru Marestel and the Mondeuse, Chardonnay, Altesse, and Jacquère grape varieties the stars of this exceptional vineyard.
