“The 2018 Pinot Noir displays a Burgundian profile at the foot of the Pyrenees: roundness, finesse, and complexity, with a low pH and 40% whole-cluster fermentation. ” (Le Guide RVF 2024). The latest addition to Château Montus, the 2018 Pinot Noir features a rich and aromatic nose, with notes of red fruit mingled with the subtle aromas of barrel aging. Full-bodied on the palate, it displays beautiful balance, with a fine, elegant structure and silky tannins. A wine that truly reflects its terroir!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2018 Pinot Noir showcases a Burgundian profile at the foot of the Pyrenees: roundness, finesse, and complexity, with a low pH and 40% whole-cluster fermentation.

About the estate:

Alain Brumont has forged his own distinctive style, sending wines from Madiran across the globe under the Château Montus label, which he acquired in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont’s vintages reflect his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, which vary in composition from 20% to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château’s three cuvées—Prestige, XL, Montus, and La Tyre—and undoubtedly delivers the most spectacular profile of this challenging Pyrenean grape.
