Gault & Millau

(Notes from the 2010 vintage)

With its concentration and richness in polyphenols, Tannat offers a unique sensation and a new style, with aging potential comparable to Vintage Ports. A rare cuvée not to be missed!

Enjoy it with sheep's cheese, replace traditional jam... It's divine with Roquefort cheese, chocolate desserts, and any dessert with red fruit coulis. Alain Brumont's top recommendation: strawberries with Montus Vintage!

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Alain Brumont develops his personality through a style that has made Madiran wines famous throughout the world under the Château Montus label, which he bought in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont's vintages reflect his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, ranging from 20 to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château's three wines, Prestige, XL, Montus and La Tyre, and certainly delivers the most spectacular profile of this difficult-to-handle Pyrenean grape.
