Gault & Millau

(2010 Vintage Notes)

Thanks to its concentration and high polyphenol content, this Tannat offers a unique experience and a fresh style, with aging potential comparable to that of vintage Port wines. A rare cuvée not to be missed!

Enjoy it with sheep’s milk cheese—it’s a great alternative to traditional jam… It’s divine with Roquefort, on chocolate desserts, and on any dessert topped with red fruit coulis. Alain Brumont’s top pick: strawberries with Montus Vintage!

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Alain Brumont has forged his own distinctive style, sending wines from Madiran across the globe under the Château Montus label, which he acquired in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont’s vintages reflect his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, which vary in composition from 20% to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château’s three cuvées—Prestige, XL, Montus, and La Tyre—and undoubtedly delivers the most spectacular profile of this challenging Pyrenean grape.
