Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
A classic estate of the appellation, producing robust, tannic Cahors wines, albeit at the expense of a certain austerity in the entry-level wines. The "Expression" cuvée, made from the finest vines on the third terrace, is of exemplary consistency.

Wine noted (guide 2026) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the wine:
Round, smooth, and slightly spicy, this wine offers a simple, indulgent, and delightful drinking experience that is best enjoyed while young, paired with roast poultry or pork chops, for example.
About the estate:
According to legend, the branches of a centuries-old oak tree once provided a secluded spot for the romantic trysts of a beautiful woman named Martine. Since 2016, Alain Gayraud has handed the reins to his children, Lise and Benjamin—who bring extensive international experience to the table—to lead this historic estate (founded in 1883), located on the edge of the Lot region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares (in the process of converting to organic farming) and faces due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
The future of the Gayraud family estate now lies in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain’s children. The new generation brings greater vitality and modernity to the wines, which focus on fruit. We must commend the progress of this great 37.5-hectare estate, which, aided by climate change, makes the most of its terroir situated on the three terraces of the Lot.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Posted on February 9, 2025
A classic-style Cahors, tannic and lively, exuding flavors of blue and black fruits, combined with a wealth of spices and notes of the forest floor. Matured by a long aging process that remains evident, it forms a very traditional whole, featuring dense body on a slender, acid-driven framework. The taut finish is marked by bitterness. "Tradition" did not leave an unforgettable impression on me, unlike "Tandem," which is much more supple, less austere, and above all more accessible. Its primary character pairs well with everyday regional cuisine, such as garbure or pan-seared farm-raised pork ribs with caramelized endives. Score = 3.4.
