Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though a bit more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
A classic estate in the appellation, where robust, tannic Cahors wines are produced, albeit at the cost of a certain austerity in the entry-level wines. The “Expression” cuvée, made from the best vines on the third terrace, is of exemplary consistency.

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
According to legend, the branches of a century-old oak tree here once provided a secluded spot for a beautiful woman named Martine to meet her suitors. Since 2016, Alain Gayraud has handed the reins to his children, Lise and Benjamin—who bring extensive international experience to the table—to lead this historic estate (founded in 1883), located on the edge of the Lot department. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares (in the process of converting to organic farming) and faces due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 92/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
The red Tandem features powerful tannins; some of its grapes are vinified in oval tanks to bring out the fruit's brightness.
About the estate:
The future of the Gayraud family estate now lies in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain’s children. The new generation brings greater vitality and modernity to the wines, which focus on fruit. We must commend the progress of this great 37.5-hectare estate, which—aided by climate change—is making the most of its terroir, situated on the three terraces of the Lot.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 12/11/2025
Tandem offers a 100% Malbec that’s a bit rustic but well-crafted and vibrant, emphasizing the fruit’s crispness and the suppleness of its texture, supported by powerful, silky tannins and a chalky minerality that adds extra energy and extends the finish with finesse. The price is still reasonable. Pairs well with a traditional Toulouse cassoulet. Rating = 3.9.
