"A Negrette with character, to drink or to keep!"

" With its beautiful color intensity, this cuvée also has plenty of aromatic power (red and black fruits, spices, animal notes). On the palate, it is supple and round, supported by mellow tannins. A Fronton that can be enjoyed young or after a little aging." (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

With its beautiful color intensity, this cuvée also has plenty of aromatic power (red and black fruits, spices, animal notes). On the palate, it is supple and round, supported by mellow tannins. A Fronton that can be enjoyed both young and after a little aging.

About the estate:

In the Ribes family, everyone has their place. Jean-Luc, who is a blues musician in his spare time, took over the family estate in 1981, joined over time by Frédéric and Cathy, then by Pierre. The estate covers 23 hectares of boulbènes and gravel soils.

Estate rated 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines, you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

With the arrival of Grégoire and Anne, the Ribes family incorporated the vineyards of Château Flotis, a neighboring property that they already operated, into Le Roc. Syrah and Négrette grapes grown on a stony hillside now join the ranks of the estate. The grafted Bouysselet grapes, vinified in barrels, produce an ambitious white wine, while the Négrette grapes remain at their best thanks to careful and increasingly modern vinification techniques.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100

About wine:

Produced from the estate's finest vineyards, this wine offers aromas of ripe red fruit and licorice. Naturally fermented in concrete vats and then aged in old oak barrels, the black fruit is still firm, with layers of toasted bread and black pepper flavors. The tannins need to soften, so it should be drunk from 2026 onwards.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 09/21/2025

Finally mature, this virile and dense Fronton with an alcohol content of 14% delivers a well-structured, full-bodied and vibrant wine, supported by a mineral texture and carried by a rich palette of intense black fruits accompanied by spices and notes of licorice. The finish is pleasant with a nice peppery freshness. Reflecting the distinctive character of the Southwest, this "folle noire" remains relatively easy to drink and is perfect for pairing with spicy dishes, or more simply with an autumn mesclun salad with duck confit hearts.
