"A bold black wine—perfect for drinking now or aging!"

“ “With a beautiful intensity of color, this cuvée also boasts powerful aromas (red and black fruits, spices, and a hint of animal notes). On the palate, it reveals a supple and round texture, supported by well-integrated tannins. A Fronton that can be enjoyed both young and after a bit of aging.” (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated Estate Award-winning Wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

With its beautiful, deep color, this wine also boasts powerful aromas (red and black fruits, spices, and a hint of animal notes). On the palate, it reveals a supple, rounded texture, supported by well-integrated tannins. A Fronton that can be enjoyed both young and after a few years of aging.

About the estate:

In the Ribes family, everyone has their place. Jean-Luc, who plays the blues in his spare time, took over the family estate in 1981, joined over the years by Frédéric and Cathy, and later by Pierre. The estate covers 23 hectares of loamy and gravelly soil.

Estates rated 1*Star (Rising stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

With the arrival of their children, Grégoire and Anne, the Ribes family incorporated the vineyards of Château Flotis—a neighboring property they had already been managing—into Le Roc. Syrah and Négrette grapes grown on a stony hillside have thus joined the estate’s portfolio. The grafted Bouysselet, vinified in barrels, produces an ambitious white; alongside it, the Négrettes remain at their best thanks to meticulous and increasingly modern winemaking techniques.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

Made from grapes sourced from the estate’s finest vineyards, this wine offers aromas of ripe red fruit and licorice. Naturally fermented in concrete tanks and then aged in old oak barrels, the dark fruit is still firm, with layers of toasted bread and black pepper flavors. The tannins need time to soften, so it should be enjoyed starting in 2026.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on September 21, 2025

Now fully mature, this robust and dense Fronton, with an alcohol content of 14%, offers a well-structured, full-bodied, and vibrant palate, underpinned by a mineral backbone and carried by a rich array of intense black fruits accompanied by spices and notes of licorice. The clean finish offers a pleasant peppery freshness. Reflecting the distinctive character of the Southwest, this "folle noire" remains relatively easy to drink and is ready to pair with spicy dishes, or more simply, an autumn mesclun salad with confit duck hearts.
