The wines of the Côtes du Lot appellation obtained the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) label in 2011. The appellation's terroir is located in the southwestern region, close to the Cahors appellation, part of which it overlaps without merging with it, as the IGP Côtes du Lot is subject to specific specifications.

The Côtes du Lot appellation is located on the large limestone plateaus of the Causses du Quercy and benefits from an oceanic climate tempered by continental influences and the presence of two large rivers that cross it: the Dordogne and the Lot.

The Côtes du Lot PGI is reserved for still red, rosé, and white wines from the geographical area and for white and rosé sparkling wines that are also produced there, albeit on a small scale. The colored wines are blended from Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ségalin, Gamay, and Merlot grape varieties. The white wines use Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Semillon, and Chenin grape varieties. The red wines of Côtes du Lot can be drunk young, the rosés are deep in color and have tangy aromas, while the white wines offer connoisseurs a more complex range of aromas. The wines of Château du Cèdre are a fine example of what the Côtes du Lot terroir has to offer.
