"Off the Beaten Path"

It’s rare to find Gros and Petit Manseng wines crafted with such precision. They surprise white wine enthusiasts by combining aromatic intensity, a full-bodied texture, and remarkable finesse. Perfect for the dinner table, it really shines with a creamy dish like risotto. For those who love a thrill!

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

The Reca family combines dairy sheep farming with viticulture across two farms: Larraldea, in Saint-Just-Ibarre, and Bordaxuria, in Ispoure. As for the vineyards, there are 7.5 hectares of terraced vineyards (currently in the process of converting to organic farming) planted on the steep slopes of the Arradoy. Both estates have been managed since 2012 by the Reca sisters: Oihana, Intza, and Elorri. Elorri, who works in the vineyards alongside her partner Brice Robelet, ended her collaboration with the Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry winery in 2014 to produce her own wines.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Just one white wine vintage in 2023, made from Gros and Petit Manseng, with a touch of Petit Courbu, aged in a variety of containers, including new oak casks, earthenware jars, and stainless steel tanks.

About the estate:

After leaving the cooperative in 2014, Elorri Reca and Brice Robelet have been passionately managing this small estate located in a former quarry. The vineyard, certified organic in 2018, spans more than 350 meters of elevation, 80% of which is terraced. These young winemakers perform a great deal of manual labor to get the most out of these well-drained red sandstone terroirs. Brice also tends to a plot north of the Rhône Valley; the grapes from this plot are transported across France and vinified in Irouléguy.
