The new vintage is an approachable Mansois, stripped of its harshness, with supple, open, and juicy tannins; it’s the kind of wine you’d open on a whim, yet one that reminds you of its origins in a distinctive vintage.
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Matha’s methods are organic because the winemaker loves wines that roll their “r”s. Close to the fruit and their distinctive Rougier terroir—those iron-rich, almost mountainous red soils of Marcillac—the vines planted on terraces reach ideal ripeness. All the wines are destemmed because Jean-Luc Matha doesn’t like the “bell pepper” taste. In hindsight, it’s clear that the Fer Servadou grape (also known as Mansois or Braucol), in the hands of this winemaker, needs time, and that one must know how to coax the best out of the different wines.
