Van Volxem
Located in the historic center of Wiltingen/Saar, the Van Volxem estate was built on the ruins of a Roman villa, traces of which can still be found in the park. The vineyards, some of which were planted by the Romans as early as the 3rd century on the best schist slopes of the Saar, are among the oldest steep-slope vineyards. Rediscovered and restored by monks in the 11th century, the estate was cultivated from the 16th century onwards by the Jesuit Order and transformed into a wine-producing monastery in 1743.

The rise of Moselle and Saar wines, particularly in the luxury segment, triggered the Golden Age of Van Volxem, whose "nectars" then appeared on many wine lists around the world. Four generations of the Van Volxem family succeeded one another before the estate was sold to Roman Niewodniczanski in 2000. Since then, the house has been renovated in accordance with the requirements of the "Monuments and Sites" department, and the Van Volxem vineyard has been expanded with the acquisition of numerous plots. Dominik Völk, director of the estate since 2004, is striving to reconnect with the estate's rich past and aims to build an international reputation for Van Volxem white wines.
