Dönnhoff - Nahe Riesling Tonschiefer Trocken 2021 (sec)
92/100

93/100
James Suckling
“For a wine of this rather unassuming category, this wine is extremely mineral. In fact, if you’re unsure what that word means, here’s the explanation. But there’s also a magnificent white peach fruitiness that offers a wonderful contrast to the wet-stone character and lemony acidity. The finish is long and crystal-clear. Made from Fair’n Green-certified grapes. Drink now or cellar. Screw cap.” (James Suckling 2022)

About the wine:
The 2021 Riesling Tonschiefer comes from the slate soils of Oberhausen (Leistenberg and Hermannshöhle) and offers a clear, intense, and briny bouquet of crushed stone and white stone fruits. Supple yet light and fresh on the palate, this is a lively and subtly tannic Riesling—stimulating and briny—with lush fruit on the finish, which is still a bit edgy but only as wild as the landscape around Oberhausen. 12% ABV. Screw cap. Tasted at the winery in July 2022.
