"Its gray slate soil gives it its name, 'Tonschiefer,' and lends it an explosive minerality!"

" Sourced primarily from Leistenberg, the 2024 RieslingTrocken' ' Tonschiefer is pure and intense, with a concentrated, aromatic nose evoking crushed blue schist and salt. It is captivating and embodies an exceptional terroir that has always been one of my favorites for Rieslings that are easy to drink yet complex and unique. Rich yet light, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a dense, persistent dry Riesling, quite powerful, with a long, aromatic, intense, and seriously structured finish. The acidity is electric, yet focused on ripe, textured fruit. [...] 2025–2040.” (Robert Parker 2025) Screw cap

About the wine:

Mainly from Leistenberg, the Riesling dry Tonschiefer 2024 is pure and intense, with a concentrated, aromatic nose evoking crushed blue schist and salts. It is fascinating and represents an exceptional terroir that has always been one of my favorites when it comes to Rieslings that are easy to drink yet complex and unique. Rich yet light, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a dense, long-lasting dry Riesling, quite powerful, with a long, aromatic, intense, and seriously structured finish. The acidity is electric, yet focused on ripe, textured fruit. There is no need to open a bottle of this classic wine too early. Bottled in April with a stated alcohol content of 11.5%. 2025–2040

About the wine:

A mineral and smoky attack intertwines with subtle notes of fresh orange and yellow fruits. Concentrated and confident, with deep, mineral-driven structure supported by atension-filled, salty core. Its intensityreveals a captivatingly raw and wild side, the untamed power of a grand cru in its early stages. And all the more surprising for the tangy delicacy of the citrus fruits in the lingering finish. A compelling testament to the aging potential of great terroirs, even in difficult vintages. 2025–2033

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Delicate and subtle, the bouquet of the Tonschiefer reveals its characteristic minerality as well as notes of yellow fruit. On the palate, the wine has depth and tension. With excellent definition, it benefits from the incisive contribution of its structure, which lends it salinity, energy, and brightness! A compelling and exciting wine. Now–2038

About the wine:

A subtly spicy nose, with notes of slate and dried lemon peel, still relatively closed. Minerality dominates on the palate, with a very elegant acidity that permeates the entire structure, promising a wealth of nuances to come.
