Jean-Marie Haag - Zinnkoepflé Pinot Gris Cuvée Théo 2016 (demi-sec)
15/20
RVF
“A sweet wine with a powerful structure and a fiery finish. ” (The Guide to the Best Wines of France 2019 - RVF) The Zinnkoepflé terroir means “head in the sun,” a name that stems from its altitude (422 m) and south-facing orientation. Here, Pinot Gris expresses its full aromatic palette (brioche, white fruits, honey) and complexity. It is the very embodiment of the terroir.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
This 7-hectare estate cultivates most of its vineyards on the slopes of the Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru and in the surrounding area. Unsurprisingly, Gewürztraminers take center stage here, but in 2015 the Pinot Noirs also made a strong showing. The 2016 vintages are successful, particularly the Gewürztraminer and Riesling. The 2017 vintages are a solid group, with the exception of the Gewürztraminer from the Grand Cru, which is overly marked by its residual sugar.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
It all began with a small plot of land tended on Sundays by Jean-Marie’s grandfather, a potash miner. Today, a 7-hectare estate in the heart of the Noble Valley, 20 km south of Colmar, run by Jean-Marie Haag since 1988. Beautiful terroir wines, notably the Gewürztraminers grown on the Zinnkoepflé grand cru, a majestic hillside sheltered by the Grand and Petit Ballon.
