“A limited-production vintage: 800 bottles. The wine displays a ‘dry-yet-soft’ balance, with toasted notes and aromas of yellow fruit. Well-balanced, it makes an ideal companion for the table.” (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2019 - RVF) A masterful vintage!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

This 7-hectare estate cultivates most of its vineyards on the slopes of the Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru and in the surrounding area. Unsurprisingly, Gewürztraminers take center stage here, but in 2015 the Pinot Noirs also made a strong showing. The 2016 vintages are successful, particularly the Gewürztraminer and Riesling. The 2017 vintages are a solid group, with the exception of the Gewürztraminer from the Grand Cru, which is overly marked by its residual sugar.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

It all began with a small plot of land tended on Sundays by Jean-Marie’s grandfather, a potash miner. Today, a 7-hectare estate in the heart of the Noble Valley, 20 km south of Colmar, run by Jean-Marie Haag since 1988. Beautiful terroir wines, notably the Gewürztraminers grown on the Zinnkoepflé grand cru, a majestic hillside sheltered by the Grand and Petit Ballon.

Selected Winery (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

A limited-release vintage: 800 bottles. The wine boasts a "dry-yet-soft" balance, with toasty notes and aromas of yellow fruit. Well-balanced, it makes an ideal companion for the table.

About the estate:

Located in Soultzmatt, in the heart of the Vallée Noble, the estate is centered around the Zinnkoepflé grand cru. The terroir-driven wines are generally of fine quality, with the full-bodied character typical of this area south of Colmar.
