"The oldest vintage in Alsace with remarkable finesse!"

"The perfect balance of concentration, mineral elegance, and youthful freshness makes this great dry Riesling from Alsace as delicious as it is captivating. As it opens up, you get closer to the soul of the peach. There is nothing spectacular about this beauty, but let yourself be carried away by its long and extremely refined finish, and you won't miss the huge statement it makes. (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100

5-star estate (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About the estate:

Cathy Faller works alongside her sons Eddy and Théo. The vast vineyard produces finely structured, fruity wines. The finest wines come from the surrounding hillsides: the Furstentum and Altenbourg grands crus and the Schlossberg, which shines in its crystalline interpretation of Riesling. The takeover of the Gérard Fuchs estate (in Sigolsheim) in 2019 enabled the estate to expand by six hectares, including two on the Furstentum grand cru. Ideal for meeting the unflagging global demand. An institution.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About the estate:

Le Clos des Capucins is one of those magical, elusive, timeless places. It is rare to find a place with so much energy and history, producing wines of such purity. Supported by her two sons, Eddy and Théo, Catherine Faller is at the helm of the estate, deploying rare energy to maintain the highest quality wines and keep the estate warm and welcoming. Her son Théo pays close attention to the vines, which have been cultivated biodynamically since 2005 across the entire estate, while Ghislain Berthiot, who has been with the estate for several years, is in charge of winemaking. Eddy supports his mother on the commercial side of the business. Here you can taste one of the finest expressions of the Schlossberg grand cru, at different levels of maturity. Its clarity and precision are impressive, often approaching perfection. Gewurztraminer finds its ideal terroir in the surrounding area. The estate has just purchased 6 hectares of vines, including 1 hectare in the Furstentum grand cru.

About wine:

The Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru 2023 still has a touch of youthful yeast, which is entirely understandable for a wine bottled last week. However, a hint of lemon zest is irrepressible. The palate is perfectly clean. It is stone in its raw state: pure, bright, very dry, and uncompromising. The palate continues to salivate, aided by a beautiful salinity. (Very dry)

Made from biodynamically grown grapes certified by Demeter. Can be drunk now, but will be at its peak from 2026 onwards.
