"A robust, fruity, and delicious Syrah, according to James Suckling!"
“This wine displays true Syrah character, with ripe strawberries and sweet tobacco, along with notes of bark and nuts. A hint of tuile as well. Spicy. Medium-bodied, with plenty of juicy fruit and a delicious finish. A solid Syrah. Ready to drink now. Screw cap.” (James Suckling 2022) • Screw cap

About the wine:
The 2021 Hunter Valley Shiraz is a bit closed upon opening, but it opens up when swirled a bit. It offers notes of black pepper, pink pepper, plenty of fresh and spicy acidity, sumac, iodine, poached strawberries, and star anise. The acidity has a nettle-like quality that I find very pleasant, but I think what this wine really needs is a little air. If you can let it breathe a bit—either in your glass or in a decanter—I think the wine will be even more enjoyable. It has lovely fruit, but it’s still quite lively at the moment. 13.5% alcohol, screw cap. 2023–2033

A well-ripened Syrah with prominent spice notes, giving it a monolithic character.

Light to medium-deep ruby color. On the nose, red fruit and wild berries, with hints of eucalyptus and spice. Also some earthiness. Expressive and quite complex. On the palate, crisp red fruit, red berries, and raspberries, with fine acidity that provides structure and freshness. Pure, juicy, crisp, full-bodied, characterful, balanced, and compelling. More elegant than rich or opulent. Pure Shiraz fruit with notes of terroir. A wonderful glass. I love this. Score: 16.5+/20
