Château de Pizay
Since 1981, Château de Pizay has been owned by a subsidiary of Groupama Rhône-Alpes, the regional agricultural insurance fund. The estate covers 80 hectares around Château de Pizay, 40 of which are planted with vines. A sharecropping arrangement in the neighboring town of Régnié-Durette produces Régnié, the tenth and final Cru of the Beaujolais region. The 1998 acquisition of Château de Saint Lager, an 8-hectare estate located at the foot of the famous Brouilly hill, enriches the lineup with a fresh and appealing cru: Brouilly Château de Saint Lager.
The Château de Pizay estate thus cultivates vineyards located within several appellations: red Beaujolais, Morgon, Régnié, white Beaujolais, and Brouilly. The grape varieties at the Château de Pizay vineyard consist, of course, exclusively of black Gamay (white-juiced) for the red wines and Chardonnay for the white wines. The entire Château de Pizay wine production is vinified, aged, and bottled on the estate.
