“The subtlety of Gamay at an unbeatable value”

Made from old vines planted on ancient granite and schist soils on the La Chanaise plot, this Morgon is exceptionally refined. On the palate, it retains a freshness bursting with red berries on the attack; the tannins are well-integrated, and it develops tertiary aromas of cocoa. A truly lovely Morgon!

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that sets the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

A leading figure in the Beaujolais region in general and in Morgon in particular, Dominique Piron—joined by his partner Julien Révillon—has developed a solid range of Beaujolais wines. Across more than 100 hectares, seven appellations are represented, with a natural emphasis on Morgon. With a refined style and expressive aromas, while retaining the distinctive character of their terroir, the estate’s wines are all outstanding.

About the estate:

As the heir to 14 generations of winemakers, Dominique Piron handed over the reins of the family estate in 2020 to Julien Revillon, his business partner since 2013. Revillon now oversees approximately 50 hectares, comprising both the estate’s own vineyards and grapes purchased for the wine merchant division.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Julien Revillon, assisted by his talented winemaker Pierre Meunier, continues Dominique Piron’s legacy with consistency and flair. The duo is supported by vineyard manager Thibaud Lemaître, a role that became necessary to oversee an estate spanning 90 hectares. Their combined efforts have improved the quality of the grapes, and the plot-by-plot selection process they’ve undertaken is beginning to bear fruit. We’re impressed by the consistency of the lineup and its cornerstones: the fruit’s natural spontaneity, its sweetness, and the precise character of each vintage.

Review by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on April 13, 2025

Ruby color with deep purple at the core. On the nose, red fruit, raspberries, crushed red berries, earthy notes, and a hint of floral. Pure Gamay, pure Beaujolais—so recognizable. On the palate, a burst of red berries, tart cherries, and a touch of unripe raspberries, with a firm structure thanks to lively, refined acidity. The earthy character comes through here as well. Character, typicity, and drinking pleasure. A ready-to-drink Morgon. Not overly complicated or pretentious. Delicious with roasted chicken legs, fried potatoes, and salad. Score: 15.5/20
