“Fresh and lively, almost crisp despite the mature vintage. It reveals aromas of fresh red berries and strawberries. On the palate, it is concentrated and only moderately full-bodied; the stony minerality accentuates the impression of freshness, although the acidity is actually moderate. A very clean finish.” (James Suckling 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
A leading figure in the Beaujolais region in general and in Morgon in particular, Dominique Piron—joined by his partner Julien Révillon—has developed a solid range of Beaujolais wines. Across more than 100 hectares, seven appellations are represented, with Morgon naturally making up the majority. With a refined style and expressive aromas, while retaining the distinctive character of their terroir, the estate’s wines are all outstanding.

About the estate:
As the heir to 14 generations of winemakers, Dominique Piron handed over the reins of the family estate in 2020 to Julien Revillon, his business partner since 2013. Revillon now oversees some 50 hectares, comprising both the estate’s own vineyards and grapes purchased for the merchant division.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Julien Revillon, assisted by his talented winemaker Pierre Meunier, continues Dominique Piron’s legacy with consistency and flair. The duo is supported by vineyard manager Thibaud Lemaître, whose assistance has become essential for overseeing an estate spanning 90 hectares. Their joint efforts have improved the quality of the grapes, and the plot-by-plot selection process they’ve undertaken is beginning to bear fruit. We’re impressed by the consistency of the lineup and its cornerstones: the fruit’s natural spontaneity, its sweetness, and the precise character of each cru.

Discover this cuvée, which combines dynamic freshness with the crispness of tart, slightly spicy fruit. The palate is straightforward and robust, supported by the finesse of ripe, dense tannins and a caressing texture, while the medium-length finish is taut with a slightly sharp mineral note. This lovely Chénas paired perfectly with braised beef cheek à la bourguignonne. Rating = 4.1.

Medium-deep ruby red with an orange rim. On the nose, red fruit, raspberry, and strawberry. Also earthy notes with green herbs. Clean, authentic grape and terroir aromas. On the palate, soft yet crisp red fruit with that lovely raspberry and red berry acidity. Followed by earthy notes and spiciness. Soft tannins, body, grip, character, and length. Indeed, a very nice Chénas. Tastes better on the second day (after some aeration) than straight from the bottle. So decanting is recommended. Score: 16/20
