“This charming estate on the banks of the Gironde, in the Ambès area, has been completely renovated by Antoine Touton, a native of Bordeaux who made his fortune in the cocoa import business. For a good ten years now, he has been producing wines of steadily improving quality—largely dominated by Merlot—on marshy soils (clay and alluvial deposits). Under the guidance of oenologist Alain Raynaud, the latest vintages have gained body, offering more intense concentration thanks to higher levels of ripeness and lower yields. Sainte-Barbe offers enjoyable, easy-drinking red wines at attractive prices.”

One big regret: not buying more. Delicious—it goes down way too easily. It would be a shame to waste it on a veal Marengo.
