Château Lamothe de Haux
Château Lamothe de Haux is located in the town of Haux, on the right bank of the Garonne River southeast of Bordeaux. The vineyard spans 80 hectares of vines in theCôtes de Bordeaux, Cadillac, and Bordeaux appellations, planted onclay-limestone soils.Château Lamothe de Haux is a estate whose foundations date back to the 16th century. Since 1956, four generations of the same family have succeeded one another. Today, Anne Neel is at the helm, alongside her children Maria and Damien Chombart.
Since 2017, Maria and Damien Chombart, owners of Château Lamothe de Haux, have sought to highlight the noble Bordeaux grape varieties—namely Sémillon, Merlot, and Cabernet—while breaking with traditional Bordeaux conventions. The château’s wine merchant division, “Les Vins choisis,” thus offers red and white Bordeaux under the Madame Étienne brand, in homage to the estate’s owner in the 1920s.
Over time, the Lamothe de Haux vineyard has evolved, with the acquisition of the Château Manos vineyards in 1991 and major renovations to the cellar in underground galleries, which house over 300 barrels currently aging as well as bottles in storage.
The red wines are primarily made from Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; the white wines are made from the traditional Sauvignon and Sémillon, supplemented with Muscadelle.
