“This is a robust, full-bodied wine, built for long-term aging. In fact, it would be a shame to drink it before 4 or 5 years. It is clearly the most masculine, concentrated, and structured of the Canon-Fronsacs. There is a significant amount of Merlot in this blend. This purplish-hued cuvée offers notes of Asian plum sauce, crème de cassis, and blackberry liqueur, along with a hint of pencil shavings. Full-bodied, robust, and seriously talented, this massive Canon-Fronsac needs time to settle. However, it has it all: acidity, tannins, extraction, and considerable richness. It is an impressive wine and a revelation of the vintage.” (Wine Advocate 2012 – Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2013 guide) 14,5/20 (Good wine)
Rated estate (2016 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the wine:
A very sophisticated wine, with notes of chocolate and spices; rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with supple, well-integrated tannins
About the estate:
Located on a very classic Fronsadais molasse terroir—with soil composed of a mixture of limestone and clay—this small estate sits atop a hillside (“pey” in the local dialect), which gives the cru its name.
Decanter
Wine rated 16/20
About the wine:
Full-bodied, smooth, spicy, with even a hint of exotic flavor. Bursting with tart fruit. Robust, yet with a round tannic structure.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2014 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)
Rated Estate (2016 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the excellence of French wine production.)
About the wine:
The 2009 vintage is full-bodied and offers power and character on the palate, with a limestone-like style evident in its tension on the finish. It can also be enjoyed without haste.
About the estate:
Originally from northern France, Bénédicte and Grégoire Hubau run Moulin Pey-Labrie in Canon-Fronsac and Haut-Lariveau in Fronsac. These two lovely estates are managed with care, and the quality of their wines over the past few vintages has been impressive.
