Graves de Vayres

The Graves-de-Vayres AOP is a French wine produced in both white and red varieties in the communes of Vayres and Arveyres. This appellation is located in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, halfway between Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, north of Entre-deux-Mers, on the left bank of the Dordogne River. It has been known and renowned since the mid-19th century. The appellation is the second oldest in the Bordeaux region, and the magnificent Château de Vayres stands as a majestic testament to this historic past. The soils consist of gravelly terrain, successive layers of alluvial deposits carried by the Dordogne River, ochre-colored clays, sands, and very fine silts. These soils allow Merlot, in particular, to flourish and express its distinctive character to the fullest.The Graves de Vayres style thus beautifully combines the roundness and silkiness of the tannins with the minerality and finesse of the gravel soils.
