"Smoothness, freshness, drinkability, potential: the perfect balance. One of the stars of the appellation! ~ Terre de Vins"

Chantegrive is one of the appellation's flagship wines. Once again this year, it confirms its status with a wine whose substance reveals particularly masterful craftsmanship. The palate is appealing and smooth, with supple, textured flesh that releases flavors of black cherry, black fruit, and cashew. The nose already hinted at this deliciousness: cocoa aromas and a touch of eucalyptus. Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Long considered one of the appellation's flagship properties, this very large estate in the southern Graves region belongs to the Levêque family, who are also renowned brokers in the Bordeaux region. It is now managed by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), who produces very typical red and white wines destined for great success. Both the red and white wines are very expressive, delicately aromatic, rather refined, and well-balanced. The Caroline cuvée, the estate's flagship cuvée with a well-established reputation, is rich yet elegant.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

About wine:

Richly fragrant nose—chocolate, cloves, coffee beans, and a few toasted notes with black berries. Supple and full-bodied, this wine exudes beautiful energy and good amplitude, with chalky but fine tannins that leave a powdery texture on the tongue. A little more restrained than others, it offers real tension that lasts from start to finish. The tannins are abundant and fill the mouth, slightly covering the fresh blue fruits. It has definitely mellowed a little since the primeurs, so wait a little longer before opening and tasting it. I appreciate the minerality of wet stone and the fresh but spicy accent of licorice on the finish, which also has a touch of alcohol. 2025-2039

About the estate:

Created from scratch in 1967 by broker Henri Lévêque, this vineyard, which originally covered 2 hectares, is now a beautiful estate of nearly 100 hectares (HVE3 certified), currently run by the founder's daughter, Marie-Hélène Lévêque, advised since 2006 by Hubert de Boüard. A sure bet in Graves, with numerous Favorites its credit.

About the estate:

An iconic property in Podensac, in the heart of the Graves appellation, Chantegrive was created by Henri Lévêque. This historic Bordeaux wine broker began his adventure in 1966 with just two hectares of vines. Long a pioneer in the production of ambitious wines, Chantegrive experienced a slump in the early 2000s. The château, taken over by Marie-Hélène Lévêque with the advice of Hubert de Boüard since 2006, now produces wines that have regained their place among the appellation's finest. Launched in 2020, the Les Oiseaux range presents a cleverly modern and impulsive image of Graves wines.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About wine:

Fresh and fruity, with notes of red berries, cherries, and subtle spices. Quite crisp, with firm, structured tannins that support the fruit well. More robust than fleshy, with a medium to full body. Tight and fairly long finish. This wine requires 2 to 3 years of bottle aging. Drink from 2028 onwards.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About wine:

The bouquet is intense, distinguished by smoky and spicy nuances. It gradually reveals itself, highlighting its focus on detail and finesse. The smoky and spicy notes are complemented by hints of black berries such as blackberries and blueberries. Slightly creamy on the attack, the wine has smooth, velvety tannins followed by a touch of austerity that ensures a fresh and persistent finish. A sapid wine that deserves a little time to develop, but which shows promising prospects. 2027-2040
