"An excellent example of the success of dry white wines from Bordeaux! ~ Decanter"

"A Graves offering vibrant citrus aromas, liveliness, and a flavorful palate. The Sémillon grapes give it richness, while the Sauvignon grapes bring a lovely freshness. Aged exclusively in stainless steel vats, this wine has a clean, silky palate that finishes with a lemony note. Ideal with oysters. (Decanter 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Long considered one of the appellation's flagship properties, this very large estate in the southern Graves region belongs to the Levêque family, who are also renowned brokers in the Bordeaux region. It is now managed by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), who produces very typical red and white wines destined for great success. Both the red and white wines are very expressive, delicately aromatic, rather refined, and well-balanced. The Caroline cuvée, the estate's flagship cuvée with a well-established reputation, is rich yet elegant.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Created from scratch in 1967 by broker Henri Lévêque, this vineyard, which originally covered 2 hectares, is now a beautiful estate of nearly 100 hectares (HVE3 certified), currently run by the founder's daughter, Marie-Hélène Lévêque, advised since 2006 by Hubert de Boüard. A sure bet in Graves, with numerous Favorites its credit.

About the estate:

An iconic property in Podensac, in the heart of the Graves appellation, Chantegrive was created by Henri Lévêque. This historic Bordeaux wine broker began his adventure in 1966 with just two hectares of vines. Long a pioneer in the production of ambitious wines, Chantegrive experienced a slump in the early 2000s. The château, taken over by Marie-Hélène Lévêque with the advice of Hubert de Boüard since 2006, now produces wines that have regained their place among the appellation's finest. Launched in 2020, the Les Oiseaux range presents a cleverly modern and impulsive image of Graves wines.

About wine:

The gravelly soil of this estate gives the wine its dominant mineral texture. The freshness and grapefruit aromas offer a fruity contrast. This wine is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of apple and pear, and a hint of orange zest on the finish. Best enjoyed from 2026 onwards.

About wine:

A fresh and crisp white wine with notes of sliced apple and lemon zest. It is juicy and taut, with medium body and a lovely minerality on the finish.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About wine:

Refreshing notes of grapefruit and elderflower in the bouquet of Chantegrive. Slightly sparkling on the attack, the wine has character and freshness, which was not necessarily obvious in 2023. A sapid, structured wine that is ready to be enjoyed. Now – 2028

Note and opinion by Mr. MANUEL C. Published on 01/22/2026

A big disappointment, reminiscent of a bargain price for tapas restaurants in need of cheap wine. Very smooth, vaguely aromatic. Well made in terms of vinification but impersonal, it is not worth the price. There are more interesting alternatives in this product category.
