“A Graves wine offering vibrant citrus aromas, liveliness, and a flavorful palate. The Sémillon grapes lend it richness, while the Sauvignon grapes bring a lovely freshness. Aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, this wine has a clean, silky palate that finishes with a lemony note. Ideal with oysters. ” (Decanter 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Long regarded as one of the appellation’s flagship estates, this vast property in the southern Graves region belongs to the Levêque family, who are also renowned wine merchants in the Bordeaux region. It is now managed by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), who produces highly characteristic wines—both red and white—that are destined for great success. Both the red and white wines are highly expressive, delicately aromatic, rather refined, and well-balanced. The Caroline, the estate’s flagship wine with a well-established reputation, is rich yet never lacking in elegance.

About the estate:

Founded from scratch in 1967 by wine merchant Henri Lévêque, this estate—which originally covered 2 hectares—is now a beautiful, cohesive property spanning nearly 100 hectares (HVE3-certified), currently managed by the founder’s daughter, Marie-Hélène Lévêque, who has been advised by Hubert de Boüard since 2006. About the estate:

An iconic estate in Podensac, at the heart of the Graves appellation, Chantegrive was founded by Henri Lévêque. This legendary Bordeaux wine merchant embarked on the venture in 1966, starting with just two hectares of vineyards. Long a pioneer in the production of ambitious wines, Chantegrive experienced a slump in the early 2000s. The château, taken over by Marie-Hélène Lévêque with the guidance of Hubert de Boüard since 2006, now produces wines that have regained their place among the appellation’s finest. Launched in 2020, the Les Oiseaux range offers a cleverly modern and spontaneous take on Graves wines.

About the wine:

The gravelly soil of this vineyard gives the wine its prominent mineral character. Its freshness and grapefruit aromas provide a fruity contrast. This wine is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of apple and pear, and a hint of orange zest on the finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2026.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Refreshing notes of grapefruit and elderflower in the bouquet of Chantegrive. Slightly effervescent on the palate, the wine displays character and freshness—qualities that weren’t necessarily a given in 2023. A flavorful, well-structured wine, ready to be enjoyed. Now – 2028

A tart, very green wine. We'll have to see how it ages...

Review by Mr. MANUEL C. Posted on January 22, 2026

A big disappointment; it feels like a budget option from Gascony for a tapas restaurant in need of an inexpensive wine. Very smooth, with a faintly aromatic profile. Well-made in terms of winemaking but lacking character, it isn’t worth the price. There are more interesting alternatives in this price range.
