"Smoothness, freshness, drinkability, potential: the perfect balance. One of the standout wines in the appellation! ~ Terre de Vins"

“Chantegrive is one of the appellation’s flagship wines. Once again this year, it reaffirms its status with this wine, whose body reveals a particularly masterful winemaking process. The palate is inviting and velvety, with a supple, textured body that releases flavors of black cherry, dark berries, and cachou. The nose already hinted at this indulgent character: cocoa-like aromas and a touch of eucalyptus. Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Long considered one of the appellation’s flagship estates, this very large estate in the southern Graves region belongs to the Levêque family, who are also renowned wine brokers in the Bordeaux region. It is now managed by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), who produces highly characteristic wines—both red and white—that are destined for great success. Both the red and white wines are highly expressive, delicately aromatic, rather refined, and well-balanced. The Caroline, the estate’s flagship wine with a well-established reputation, is rich yet never lacking in elegance.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

A richly fragrant nose—chocolate, cloves, coffee beans, and hints of toast with black berries. Supple and full-bodied, this wine exudes beautiful energy and good depth, with chalky yet refined tannins that leave a powdery texture on the palate. Slightly more restrained than others, it offers real tension that persists from start to finish. The tannins are abundant and fill the mouth, slightly masking the fresh blue fruits. It has definitely mellowed a bit since the en primeur tasting, so wait a little longer before opening and tasting it. I appreciate the minerality of wet stone and the fresh yet spicy hint of licorice on the finish, which also features a touch of alcohol. 2025–2039

About the estate:

Created from scratch in 1967 by wine merchant Henri Lévêque, this estate—which originally covered 2 ha—is now a beautiful, cohesive property spanning nearly 100 ha (HVE3-certified), currently managed by the founder’s daughter, Marie-Hélène Lévêque, who has been advised by Hubert de Boüard since 2006. A sure bet in the Graves region, with numerous Favorites its credit.

About the estate:

An iconic estate in Podensac, in the heart of the Graves appellation, Chantegrive was founded by Henri Lévêque. This long-standing Bordeaux wine broker began the venture in 1966 with just two hectares of vineyards. Long a pioneer in the production of ambitious wines, Chantegrive experienced a slump in the early 2000s. The château, taken over by Marie-Hélène Lévêque with guidance from Hubert de Boüard since 2006, now produces wines that have regained their place among the appellation’s finest. Launched in 2020, the Les Oiseaux range offers a cleverly modern and spontaneous take on Graves wines.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Fresh and fruity, with notes of red berries, cherries, and subtle spices. Quite crisp, with firm, structured tannins that provide good support for the fruit. More structured than full-bodied, with a medium- to full-bodied profile. A tight, fairly long finish. This wine requires 2 to 3 years of bottle aging. Best enjoyed starting in 2028.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

The bouquet, with good intensity, is characterized by smoky and spicy nuances. It unfolds gradually, highlighting its commitment to detail and finesse. It complements the smoky and spicy notes with hints of dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries. Slightly creamy on the palate, the wine features smooth, velvety tannins that give way to a touch of austerity, ensuring a fresh and lingering finish. A flavorful wine that deserves some time to open up but already shows promising potential. 2027–2040
