"A great example of the success of dry white Bordeaux wines! ~ Decanter"

“A Graves with vibrant citrus aromas, liveliness, and a flavorful palate. The Sémillon grapes lend it richness, while the Sauvignon grapes bring a lovely freshness. Aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, this wine has a clean, silky palate that ends with a lemony finish. Ideal with oysters. ” (Decanter 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Long considered one of the appellation’s flagship estates, this very large estate in the southern Graves region belongs to the Levêque family, who are also renowned wine brokers in the Bordeaux region. It is now managed by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), who produces highly characteristic wines—both red and white—that are destined for great success. Both the red and white wines are highly expressive, delicately aromatic, rather refined, and well-balanced. The Caroline, the estate’s flagship wine with a well-established reputation, is rich yet never lacking in elegance.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Created from scratch in 1967 by wine merchant Henri Lévêque, this estate—which originally covered 2 ha—is now a beautiful, cohesive property spanning nearly 100 ha (HVE3-certified), currently managed by the founder’s daughter, Marie-Hélène Lévêque, who has been advised by Hubert de Boüard since 2006. A sure bet in the Graves region, with numerous Favorites its credit.

About the estate:

An iconic estate in Podensac, in the heart of the Graves appellation, Chantegrive was founded by Henri Lévêque. This long-standing Bordeaux wine broker began the venture in 1966 with just two hectares of vineyards. Long a pioneer in the production of ambitious wines, Chantegrive experienced a slump in the early 2000s. The château, taken over by Marie-Hélène Lévêque with guidance from Hubert de Boüard since 2006, now produces wines that have regained their place among the appellation’s finest. Launched in 2020, the Les Oiseaux range offers a cleverly modern and spontaneous take on Graves wines.

Rated Estate (2022 Guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

The gravelly soil of this estate gives the wine its prominent mineral character. Its freshness and grapefruit aromas provide a fruity contrast. This wine is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of apple and pear, and a hint of orange zest on the finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2026.

A fresh, crisp white wine with notes of fresh-cut apple and lemon zest. It is juicy and taut, with medium body and a lovely minerality on the finish.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Refreshing notes of grapefruit and elderflower in the bouquet of Chantegrive. Slightly effervescent on the palate, the wine has character and freshness—qualities that weren’t necessarily obvious in 2023. A flavorful, well-structured wine that’s ready to be enjoyed. Now–2028

A tart, very green wine. We'll have to see how it ages...

Review and comment by Mr. MANUEL C. Posted on January 22, 2026

A big disappointment—it feels like a budget-friendly option from Gascony for a tapas restaurant in need of an inexpensive wine. Very smooth, vaguely aromatic. Well-crafted in terms of winemaking but impersonal; it’s not worth the price. There are more interesting alternatives in this product category.
