"The 2018 BriO de Cantenac Brown is dark, fleshy, and enveloping. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather, espresso, and tobacco rush out of the glass in a sumptuous, exotically ripe second wine from Cantenac Brown. Juicy and supple, the 2018 BriO will drink beautifully right from the start. Rated estate (2022 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

This estate was bought by Simon Halabi, a lover of fine Médoc wines, who has given a motivated team, led by the very friendly and talented José Sanfins, the means to improve quality. The latest vintages have all been successful: wines that are rather full-bodied for Margaux but harmonious in their power. The second wine, Brio, lacks a little panache, despite its name, but the estate produces a lovely dry white Bordeaux appellation wine called Alto.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Dominated by an imposing neo-Tudor castle built in the 19th century This 48-hectare estate, planted on beautiful gravel soils in the heart of the appellation, has enjoyed a renaissance, first thanks to the Axa group and, since 2006, under the leadership of the Halabi family, who entrusted its management to José Sanfins.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

This beautiful and imposing Margaux estate consistently produces high-quality wines worthy of its classification. Its dynamic director, José Sanfins, trained at the Cazes and Axa Millésime schools, knows how to craft wines that are charming, yet also deep and rich (such as the Alto white, produced in small quantities). A new owner, the Le Lous family, has even higher ambitions. An additional 10 hectares were acquired in 2020 and major modernization work on the production facilities is planned. The estate is not resting on its laurels!

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2019 guide) 94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is elegant, refined, fruity, and offers freshness and a touch of complexity. It reveals notes of fresh, crisp blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, and a hint of wild strawberry, combined with subtle hints of gray pepper, flowers, and delicate toasted notes. The palate is fruity, balanced and offers a nice definition, good finesse of grain, deliciousness, a mineral structure, a subtle juiciness, freshness, finesse, roundness and a nice silky and delicate touch. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry and juicy/fresh raspberry combined with subtle hints of flowers (violet, cornflower) and delicate hints of juicy red berries, subtle hints of toast, chocolate, caramelization (in the background) and a subtle hint of sweet spices (in the background). The tannins are elegant. A subtle hint of saltiness on the finish. Good length. A subtle hint of coffee on the finish.
