"The nose takes us on to mocha and the pride of black fruit. Complex, rich and deep from the outset. The old Ferrière vines express themselves in a fresh, minty declension. Balanced, delicate, silky and precise. Ferrière, with this 2022, is in the Place". (Terre de Vins 2023). Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

A new vat room and the handover to the competent Claire Villars-Lurton, who is committed to respectful, attentive viticulture, have enabled this Margaux cru classé to regain its rightful place. The 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages illustrate the estate's progress. The wines continue to gain in finesse.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Magnificent fragrance of rose and milk chocolate, expressive, lively and inviting. Round and supple, with generous aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and strawberry. Full-bodied and well-textured, the tannins are fine and perfectly integrated, providing just a touch of grip and support to the fruit and high acidity. Well controlled, delicate, confident but not at all ostentatious, with good energy and power from start to finish. Pleasant texture and juiciness, pretty and still structured. It doesn't have much concentration, nor overt power, but offers a truly magnificent wine, sculpted, precise, refined, with lots of energy and drive. Excellent mineral and stony finish, with impressive length. Drink it today. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. 75-80% great wine production. pH 3.64. Yield: 24 hl/ha. Aging: 18 months, 35% in new oak barrels, 35% in one-wine barrels. 2028 - 2049

About the domain :

Owned by the Ferrière family from the 18th century to 1914, this vineyard was leased from 1952 onwards by Alexis Lichine, who transferred the vinification to Lascombes. Bought by the Villard family in 1988, it was reborn in 1992, at the end of the lease. Entirely renovated by Claire Villars-Lurton (Haut-Bages Libéral in Pauillac), the vineyard covers 20 ha and is run organically.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96/100

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The wine's philosophy is reflected in this pure, vibrant 2022. The fruit is dynamic on the palate, and ageing in wood, vat and amphora preserves structure while adding roundness. A wine that is both powerful and controlled.

About the domain :

A very small estate, Ferrière continues to chart its course. Claire Villars-Lurton, who runs the estate, spares no effort: construction of a new winery, operational since the 2013 harvest, and biodynamic vineyard certification since 2015. Every year, the wines gain a little more density, offering a distinctive style without ever trying to play hard to get. This is now a sure-fire Margaux value.

About the wine:

Dusty spices with a lactic touch and deep black fruit aromas. Full-bodied and rich, this wine reveals generous notes of blackberry and dark chocolate, which persist in a long, structured finish. Made from Demeter-certified biodynamically grown grapes. Drink from 2027.

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95-96/100

About the wine:

The nose takes us on to mocha and the pride of black fruit. Complex, rich and deep from the outset. Ferrière's old vines express their freshness with a hint of mint. Balanced, delicate, silky and precise. Ferrière, with this 2022, is in the Place.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Black color. Intense, ripe fruity nose with complex nuances. The palate evokes velvety, savory grape juice. After a full-bodied mid-palate, a fine, seductive frame emerges, followed by great length. A very good wine.
