"Dense garnet red. As usual, Lascombes does not seek to hide itself and stands out for its charm and relevance. It manages to perfectly balance aging, fruit, and terroir, but its nose clearly indicates that it will need to be given time. This last point is confirmed by the palate, where the wine is delicious, juicy, smooth, and fresh! There is no shortage of paradoxes... nor of Lascombes' ability to produce great wines!" Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2019 guide) 17,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About wine:

Generous, but a little soft in the mid-palate at the moment, with nice tannin texture.

About the estate:

The mutual insurance group MACSF, now the owner of this very important property, is doing everything possible to ensure its prestige and quality, under the effective leadership of Dominique Befve. The wine, always made from very ripe grapes, has a fullness and smoothness that is rare in Margaux, and the charm and finesse of the second wine, Chevalier-de-Lascombes, with its seductive aromas, is a delight.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in the 15th century by the knight Antoine de Lascombes, acquired in 1952 by Alexis Lichine, then by the Bass & Charrington wine merchant in 1971, this estate lay dormant until it was bought in 2001 by the American investment fund Colony Capital. A major program was implemented under the leadership of Dominique Befve, formerly of the Rothschild estates, to renovate this vast, highly fragmented 112-hectare vineyard. Lascombes, acquired in 2011 by MACSF, has now regained its status.

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

After coming under the control of MACSF, the mutual insurance company for healthcare professionals, in 2011, Lascombes has regained its composure and can now look to the future. The new owner makes no secret of his ambition to raise Lascombes to the level of a very good second growth. Under the leadership of Dominique Befve, the estate has already made good progress in recent years, taking another step forward in the early 2010s. It is now consistent.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100

About wine:

Complex nose blending elderberries, spices, and aromas of black and purple cherries. The wine is full-bodied and structured with elegant tannins and a fleshy texture. Savory finish. Try after 2024.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94-95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is elegant, aromatic, and offers richness (in control), freshness, lovely definition, as well as racy power and delicacy. There are notes of pulpy blackberry, creamy raspberry and, more subtly, fleshy blueberry, combined with hints of fresh/ripe red berries, lily and subtle touches of bourbon vanilla pod, licorice, coffee/roasting, discreet hints of caramelization, roasted hazelnut, and an imperceptible hint of pepper. The palate is beautifully fresh, elegant, well-structured, precise, racy, and masterful, offering richness, roundness, smoothness, lovely freshness, a tangy texture, fine grain, concentration, and controlled power. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy strawberry, juicy/fresh blackberryfresh blackberries and, more subtly, pulpy blueberries, combined with hints of fresh/juicy red berries and touches of violet, licorice, caramelization, camphor, a discreet hint of cardamom, chocolate, a subtle hint of pepper (in the background) and lily/varietal (adding a touch of freshness). The tannins are elegant, precise, and well-integrated. Good length.

Anthocyanins - Yohan Castaing

Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing

Wine rated (2019 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Slightly reduced, with lovely notes of mocha, spices, and perfectly ripe black fruits. A hint of pepper on the palate, followed by juiciness, fleshiness, and heavy tannins, all rounded off by a balanced, fresh structure. Very nice tannins on the finish, with a light and delicate aftertaste.
