Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2018 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
The most recent vintages show improvement; they are clean and somewhat tannic for Margaux wines, with a clear improvement in quality and oak influence. This is a wine to watch, as the terroir here is remarkable. Good value for money.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
Once a fief of the seigneury that is now Château Margaux, the noble estate of Gassies was acquired in the 17th century by Pierre de Rauzan. The estate was divided into two during the Revolution, giving rise to Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla. Owned by the Quié family (Croizet Bages in Pauillac) since 1946, this 25-hectare vineyard is now managed by Jean-Michel Quié and his children, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe.

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
While not the most expressive or profound of the classified growths, Rauzan-Gassies has regained a very respectable standing over the past decade, even though we believe it has the potential to aim even higher. The vineyard has undergone a serious overhaul, and the château is in the process of acquiring new winemaking equipment that should allow it to achieve greater precision and density. Prices remain very reasonable, so now is the time to take advantage of this.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Quite aromatic and lively, with hints of berry pastries. It has a lovely structure, with fine yet firm tannins, and offers a juicy, fruity finish. The second wine of Château Rauzan-Gassies. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2019 guide) 89-90/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is subtly restrained, offering concentration and a touch of power and intensity. The wine benefits from decanting. It features notes of blackcurrant, wild blackberry, and, more subtly, wild red berries and violets/flowers, combined with hints of black pepper, as well as touches of spice, toasted oak, rose, smoke, and clove. On the palate, it is fruity, mineral, and balanced, offering good definition, a mineral backbone, a touch of richness, a delicate smoothness, tension, precision, and a subtle freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of ripe wild raspberry, ripe blackcurrant, and, more subtly, ripe/fresh red berries combined with hints of flowers, as well as hints of tobacco, spices, and a very subtle hint of clove. The tannins are well-integrated. Good length.
