Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2018 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

The latest vintages show improvement, with Margaux wines that are clean and rather tannic, with a clear improvement in quality and woodiness. This is a wine to watch, as the terroir here is remarkable. Good value for money.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

Formerly part of the estate of the current Château Margaux, the noble house of Gassies was acquired in the 17th century by Pierre de Rauzan. The estate was split in two during the Revolution, giving rise to Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla. Owned by the Quié family (Croizet Bages in Pauillac) since 1946, this 25-hectare vineyard is now run by Jean-Michel Quié and his children Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe.

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Without being the most demonstrative or profound of the classified growths, Rauzan-Gassies has regained a very respectable ranking over the past decade, even if we believe it can aim even higher. The vineyard has been seriously revamped and the château is in the process of acquiring new winemaking equipment that should enable it to achieve even greater precision and density. Prices remain very reasonable, so now is the time to take advantage.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2019 guide) 89-90/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is finely concentrated and offers concentration as well as a little power/intensity. The wine benefits from being decanted. It reveals notes of blackcurrant, wild blackberry and, more subtly, wild red berries, violet/flowers combined with hints of black pepper and touches of spice, toasted oak, rose, smoke and clove. The palate is fruity, mineral, balanced and offers good definition, a mineral structure, a little fat, a fine smoothness, tension, precision and a fine freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of ripe wild raspberry, ripe blackcurrant, and more subtly, ripe/fresh red berries combined with hints of flowers, tobacco, spices, and a very discreet hint of clove. The tannins are well-integrated. Good length.
