"Assertive and determined, it combines undeniable power with a joyful juiciness that makes it irresistible! ~ Decanter"

I had the pleasure of tasting this Gem at Nicolas Stämpfli's, a dynamic and enthusiastic wine merchant in Switzerland. Precision and authenticity immediately come to mind when smelling Clos Manou 2022. What an exceptional level. On the palate, finesse outclasses power, integrating and guiding it. A wine of incredible depth, driven by vigorous tannins and vital acidity in the context of this hot vintage." (Yves Beck 2025) - Delivery in wooden crates is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and shipping method selected).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Françoise and Stéphane Dief's vines are located in the commune of Saint-Christoly, and thanks to extremely subtle vinification and aging in wood, they extract the Clos-Manou, with the intention of producing a wine for aging, very pure and of great stylistic perfection. For the Petit Manou, part of the harvest is now aged in seven-hectoliter concrete eggs. These are red wines deeply rooted in the Médoc terroir, with the structure necessary for aging. The ambitious Clos Manou cuvée demonstrates great expertise, but the second wine, Petit Manou, is also worth a detour.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Notes of coffee, tobacco, figs, cinnamon, violets, and blackberries on the nose—an opulent and captivating bouquet. On the palate, a silky, crystalline texture enhances the ripe fruit aromas. This wine, both concentrated and lively, offers an intense sensation, enhanced by subtle saline and graphite notes that lend it freshness and finesse. Assertive and determined, it combines undeniable power with a joyful juiciness that makes it irresistible and easy to drink. Its long finish leaves a lasting impression. An exceptional wine. Best enjoyed between 2025 and 2034.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

In 1998, Stéphane Dief and his wife Françoise leased 12 acres to create their vineyard. Through purchases of plots and acquisitions of carefully selected small vintages, their property now covers 17 hectares, with some very old vines, including a small plot of pre-phylloxera Merlot planted in 1850. It has become a benchmark in the Médoc region.

Wine rating (2025 guide) 93/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

A blend of 52% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Petit Verdot, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, Clos Manou 2022 is, as always, a real success. Evoking aromas of wild black berries, licorice, pencil lead, and cigar wrapper, it is medium-bodied to full-bodied, complex and concentrated, with a fleshy, harmonious fruit core and velvety tannins leading to a long, elegant finish marked by pencil lead accents. 2028-2038

Rated estate (2022 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

This small 18-hectare estate, located in the north of the Médoc region in the commune of Saint-Christoly, is passionately managed by Françoise and Stéphane Dief. Meticulous vineyard management and perfectly controlled vinification techniques give the wines both charm and depth. A wonderful discovery off the beaten track of the grands crus classés, offering remarkable value for money.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Clos Manou 2022 has a precise and concise bouquet, with aromas of blackberry, wild hedge, blue fruits, and crushed stone that blossom with aeration. It clearly surpasses the other Médoc wines tasted in this series. The palate is beautifully full-bodied, complex and harmonious, with perfectly integrated oak, remarkable fluidity and exquisite minerality on the finish. A brilliant wine. 2026-2046

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Clos Manou lets loose in this highly structured vintage (IPT 92)! Black and purple color. Intense, refined, fruity, vanilla nose, developing creaminess when swirled in the glass. Soft on the palate and immediately very flavorful, the wine develops a highly structured, powerful, yet velvety character. Long, sappy finish with a touch of austerity. With the type of cork (Ardeaseal) used, I recommend decanting it, even at the last minute. Long aging potential.
