Owned by the Rothschild family (Lafite), Château Duhart-Milon, a 4th Grand Cru Classé, also produces an excellent Pauillac with its Baron de Milon cuvée. This 2008 opens with a very "Merlot" nose, with its characteristic red fruit, and expresses itself directly, with beautiful amplitude on the palate. Its structure and shorter aging period than the grand vin make it a wine for immediate enjoyment that tastes great today. An opportunity not to be missed!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
The Duhart plateau is located in the heart of the beautiful Pauillac terroirs and is close in quality to the incomparable Lafite, although perhaps with slightly less perfect drainage. The blend makes greater use of Merlot, which better coats the very strict tannins that the terroir brings to the Cabernets. We did not find the richness and, above all, the purity of the samples tasted en primeur in the bottled wines, but the wines clearly have a distinct Pauillac character. The remarkable 2018 vintage should mark a milestone in the desired progress.

About the estate:
These former lands of the "Prince of Vines," Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur (18th century), were long owned by the Castéja family, who gave the wine its name (that of a privateer of Louis XV who settled in Pauillac after his retirement, whose house now adorns the label). Sold in 1937, fragmented and in decline, the Duhart-Milon vineyard was bought in 1962 by the Rothschilds, who restructured and expanded it, restoring it to its former glory as a 4th growth. The vineyard now covers 76 hectares adjacent to Ch. Lafite, on the Milon hillside that extends the Carruades plateau.

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Lafite Rothschild's little brother enjoys the full attention of Éric Kohler and his team. Blessed with beautiful gravelly soil in the heart of Pauillac, it suffered for a long time from the young age of its vines. As the years have passed, the vineyard is now well established. Producing serious, classic, and very dense wines that age beautifully, Duhart is a sure bet in Pauillac.
