"Deep and vibrant nose, aromatic and fragrant, with floral notes and light hints of licorice, earth, blackcurrant, black cherry, and raspberry with herbaceous accents. Succulent, it is immediately lively and tangy. Remarkably pure and precise, its supple yet fine tannins mark the pace and lend a delicate yet very seductive structure. Beautifully precise and generous, it is elegant and lively, with good fruity persistence, appealing acidity and liveliness. Intense but pure, complex but almost light, with underlying notes of wet stone and graphite bringing mineral and subtly spicy touches. Well-made and easy to drink." (Decanter 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
The vineyard boasts one of the best located and most consistent terroirs in Pauillac, with considerable potential from old Cabernet Sauvignon vines that give the wine its remarkable vinosity and very noble spicy aromas. François-Xavier Borie manages it with wisdom, skill, and an obvious loyalty to Médoc classicism. The second wine, Lacoste-Borie, has improved significantly since 2014, but will be produced in smaller volumes in the future as it will no longer include the young vines of Château Haut-Batailley.

About wine:
A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, Lacoste-Borie 2022 is one of the best wines from this brand that I have had the opportunity to taste. It has aromas of blackcurrant, charcoal, and violet. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it is full and lively, with excellent depth and a beautiful finish.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
This estate has had only two owners in 75 years: Raymond Dupin, from 1932 to 1978, then the Borie family, represented today by François-Xavier and his daughter Emeline. They manage this fifth growth classified as a homogenous vineyard on the gravel and clay plateau of Grand-Puy, with a good proportion of old vines. Consistency has been flawless for a good decade now, and some older vintages still surprise. "GPL," as they say in Bordeaux, produces a classic Pauillac, full-bodied and lively, with richly spiced tannins and a rather straightforward style. In great vintages, it acquires a magnificent mellowness that improves with age.

About wine:
Like a deep well that gradually reveals its mysteries of bark, cinnamon stick, ripe blackcurrants and blueberries, and powdered iris. On the palate, tenderness prevails in a sparkling texture with delicate spicy notes. A beautiful second wine that perfectly combines drinkability and seriousness with a delicious finish of fresh coffee. 2027-2037

About wine:
Hints of graphite and black berries in the bouquet of Lacoste-Borie, which also displays great finesse. On the palate, the wine impresses with its freshness and character. It is precise, linear and supported by compact, powerful and supportive tannins. A sapid and thirst-quenching wine. 2027-2042
