“Tenderness shines through in this sparkling wine. A beautiful second wine that perfectly balances drinkability and substance! ~ Le Figaro”

“A deep, vibrant nose—aromatic and fragrant—with floral notes and subtle hints of licorice, earth, blackcurrant, black cherry, and raspberry, accented by herbaceous notes. Delicious, it is immediately lively and crisp. Remarkably pure and precise, its supple yet refined tannins take center stage, lending a delicate yet highly alluring structure. With beautiful precision and great generosity, it is elegant and lively, with good fruity length, enticing acidity, and vibrancy. Intense yet pure, complex yet almost light, with underlying notes of damp stone and graphite adding mineral and subtly spicy touches. Well-made and easy to drink.” (Decanter 2023)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate boasts one of the best-located and most consistent terroirs in Pauillac, with significant potential from its old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, which give the wine its remarkable body and very noble spicy aromas. François-Xavier Borie manages it with wisdom, skill, and an evident commitment to Médoc classicism. The second wine, Lacoste-Borie, has clearly improved since 2014, but it will be produced in smaller quantities in the future since it will no longer include grapes from the young vines of Château Haut-Batailley.

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Lacoste-Borie is one of the best wines from this producer that I’ve had the opportunity to taste. It offers aromas of blackcurrant, charcoal, and violet. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it is full-flavored and lively, with excellent depth and a lovely finish.

Rated Estate (2021 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

This estate has had only two owners in 75 years: Raymond Dupin, from 1932 to 1978, and then the Borie family, represented today by François-Xavier and his daughter Emeline. They manage this Fifth Growth estate, which features a homogeneous vineyard on the gravel and clay plateau of Grand-Puy, with a good proportion of old vines. The quality has been consistently excellent for over a decade now, and some older vintages continue to surprise. “GPL,” as it’s known in Bordeaux, produces a classic Pauillac—full-bodied and lively, with richly spiced tannins and a rather straightforward style. In great vintages, it develops a magnificent smoothness that improves with age.
