" Once again, the Castéjas demonstrate their deep attachment to this vineyard through the quality of their wine, which is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Deep ruby in color with violet hues, this 2010 vintage develops an intense bouquet of ripe fruit and blackcurrant, enhanced by subtle smoky, spicy, and licorice notes. The gentle attack leads to a full-bodied, well-balanced palate that is both supple and substantial, built on fine, lively tannins, with unobtrusive oak. The elegant, long finish confirms the wine’s overall charm. This bottle will be just as enjoyable in two years as it will be after eight or ten years of aging. " (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014) A great success!

Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the wine:

A classic example of a well-made Pauillac: straightforward, slightly austere, with lovely fruity aromas, hints of cedar, and a long, enveloping finish.

About the estate:

It is owned by Philippe Castéja, who also owns Château Batailley in Pauillac and Château Trottevieille in Saint-Émilion. Well situated on the plateau north of the town, the estate has always produced a robust wine, which has gained in elegance in recent years.

About the estate:

The flagship wine of Borie Manoux, a venerable wine merchant founded in 1870 by the Castéja family—one of Pauillac’s oldest families—which has owned the estate since 1932. A beautiful 55-hectare estate located at the southwestern edge of the appellation, it is said to owe its name to a battle that took place on these lands in 1453.
