"In a style reminiscent of the great Burgundy wines, it reveals itself to be magnificent and seductive!"
Pontet-Canet 2017, medium to deep garnet-purple in color, offers superb notes of rosehip tea, lilac, cinnamon stick, clove, dried leaves, and undergrowth, with a heart of kirsch, raspberry coulis, warm plums, red and black currants, and a hint of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing, mineral, and wonderfully elegant with a well-played texture of accessible, mellow tannins and a long, fragrant finish. Magnificent." Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the estate:
This vintage has become one of the most sought-after in the Médoc thanks to an extraordinary duo: Jean-Michel Comme, a passionate and charismatic manager, and Alfred Tesseron, an equally committed owner and administrator who is prepared to take risks. Their partnership has enabled the vineyard to convert to organic viticulture, inspiring all their neighbors, and to perfect a working method suited to their quest for truth in the expression of the terroir and the vintage. There is no longer a second wine; the entire harvest is used to make the grand vin. In terms of style, in recent vintages, a proportion of the wine is aged in concrete vats, which perfectly balances the woodiness and releases all the aromatic purity of an exceptional juice.

Wine rating (2021 guide) 97/100 Favorite
Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About wine:
In a style reminiscent of the great Burgundy wines, 2017 is also a wine of texture, with a slightly powdery touch and a very fine grain. Long and slender, but so persistent.
About the estate:
Owned by the Tesseron family, Pontet-Canet owes much to the hard work of Jean-Michel Comme, who spearheaded the transition to biodynamic farming and has been the architect of the wines' development for some thirty years. He left the estate in May 2020, handing over the reins to Mathieu Bessonnet. In any case, the estate is well established and there is no reason to believe that it will not continue along the path it has carved out for itself. It is now up to Justine Tesseron, Alfred's daughter and now at the helm, to maintain Pontet-Canet's unique status. A visit to the cellar, the horse stables, and the winemaking facilities reveals the extent to which the château has taken its vision of excellence and respect for nature to the extreme, whatever the grumblers may say. A pioneer, Pontet-Canet has breathed new life into the Médoc, setting a trend that is now being followed by others.

About wine:
The intensity of this wine's aroma is remarkable. Firm yet velvety, the tannins are a prelude to pure, opulent blackberry fruit and balanced acidity. The wine's lines are clean and direct, promising excellent aging potential. Drink from 2024 onwards.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 96/100
About wine:
It has an ethereal transparency with a fresh nose of red fruits and cherries. Notes of terracotta and dried flowers. Plums too. Quite complex. The palate has a very detailed tannic texture with attractive blackcurrants and blueberries that linger for a long time, fresh and pure. Fruity and fresh. Try from 2023.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 98/100
About wine:
A fruity wine, very ripe, deep, vibrant, with round, well-integrated tannins, lots of vigor and pep, and a long, dynamic finish. May be divisive. 2025-2050
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2020 guide) 97/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About wine:
The nose is elegant, fresh, and offers lovely finesse, concentration, richness, a subtle incisiveness, and delicate power. There are notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and, more subtly, fresh licorice, ripe berries combined with hints of red berries, iris/lilac, graphite, racy minerality and subtle hints of violet, sweet spices and green cardamom. The palate is fruity, fresh, mineral, elegant and offers a nice definition, a tangy structure, smoothness, lovely juicy fruit, nice substance and roundness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, fleshy/juicy blackcurrant and, more subtly, violet, combined with subtle hints of licorice, lily, as well as hints of graphite, tonka bean, camphor, lilac, and Cubeb pepper. The tannins are elegant and well-integrated. Good length. A very subtle hint of toasted hazelnut on the finish. Delicious on the finish.
