Owned since 1956 by the charming Perrin family, this great classic of the Pessac-Léognan appellation captivates not only with its production volume—especially for white wines—but also with the consistency and distinctiveness of its style. The very pale whites are fresh, lively, and exceptionally refined, but since 2009 they have gained in richness and body. The reds have gained enormously in power and density and rival the very best.

About the wine:

Carbonnieux 2025 is a great success: in the glass, it exudes aromas of black berries, blackcurrant, and flowers, enhanced by delicate spicy notes. Medium- to full-bodied, dense, complex, and well-balanced, it features a fruity core with beautiful depth, supported by velvety, well-defined tannins, and finishes with a long, fragrant, and airy aftertaste. It offers excellent value for the price.

About the estate:

Brothers Éric and Philibert Perrin, along with their sister Christine Lescuyer, continue to develop this important estate, which has evolved considerably over the past decade, consistently producing delicious wine. The new generation is taking the reins; the 2019 vintage was brilliantly vinified by the young Andréa Perrin. Elegant and refreshing, the whites have gained in expressiveness while developing more body on the palate. They do not age indefinitely, and we recommend enjoying them within the first five years after bottling. However, a few exceptional vintages may hold magical surprises with extended aging. The reds—serious and consistent, though often austere in their youth—have also gained in body density. They never taste as good as they do between five and ten years of age. The vineyard is continuing its restructuring program by replacing the Sauvignon Blanc vines on the fine gravel terroirs with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Carbonnieux 2025 is a wine of impressive power. Aromas of black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs, menthol, and espresso lend the palate extraordinary depth. The tannins are full-bodied and feature chocolate notes, yet they are very well balanced. 2030–2045

A very lively wine, with lovely balance and freshness. Aromas of violet, raspberry, and red currant on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with lovely purity and fine, well-integrated tannins. Notes of flint and graphite on the finish. One of the best Carbonnieux in a long time. 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot.
