“A striking combination of freshness and fullness. A revelation for this vintage! ~ Decanter”

“The finesse and freshness of Carbonnieux’s bouquet hint at subtlety and complexity. Hints of mirabelle plums are complemented by notes of citrus and flint. On the palate, the wine displays a certain breadth, but also freshness and, above all, beautiful aromatic intensity, culminating in a lingering finish. A Carbonnieux with character that can be enjoyed young—and well past its prime!” (Yves Beck 2026)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Owned since 1956 by the charming Perrin family, this great classic of the Pessac-Léognan appellation captivates with both its production volume—especially for whites—and the consistency and distinctiveness of its style. The very pale whites are fresh, lively, and exceptionally refined, but since 2009 they have gained in richness and body. The reds have gained significantly in power and density and rival the very best.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Harvested on September 4 to ensure optimal ripeness—with an alcohol content of 14% and a low pH of 3.11—this dry white wine is a true standout of the vintage! First come the classic aromas of Sauvignon Blanc—lively, airy, and immediately expressive—marked by tart notes of lime, citrus peel, and a distinctive touch of salinity reminiscent of a margarita, which adds both charm and precision. Next comes the palate: a striking combination of freshness and fullness, with a lively, vibrant attack that quickly blossoms into a more generous, rounded mid-palate thanks to the presence of Sémillon in the blend as well as aging on the lees. This wine, aged in 10% new oak barrels, offers a satisfying sense of volume that is often lacking in lighter vintages. And this added fullness never compromises its energy; on the contrary, it enhances its complexity and drinkability. The salty and citrusy character carries through to a clean, lingering finish, reinforcing the balance and structure. 2026–2036

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Brothers Éric and Philibert Perrin, along with their sister Christine Lescuyer, continue to develop this important estate, which has evolved considerably over the past decade, consistently producing delicious wine. The new generation is taking over; the 2019 vintage was brilliantly vinified by the young Andréa Perrin. Elegant and refreshing, the whites have gained in expressiveness while developing more body on the palate. They do not age indefinitely, and we recommend enjoying them within the first five years after bottling. However, a few exceptional vintages may hold magical surprises with extended aging. The reds, serious and consistent, though often austere in their youth, have also gained in body density. They never taste as good as they do between five and ten years of age. The vineyard is continuing its restructuring program by replacing the Sauvignon Blancs on the fine gravel terroirs with Cabernet Sauvignon.

About the wine:

This wine showcases the character of Sémillon with aromas of dried apples, pears, spices, dried lemon peel, and lemon curd. It is full-bodied, complex, and rich, with flavors of fruit and grape skin. A fascinating, waxy finish. One of the earliest harvests on record, which began on August 19. A blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Sémillon.
