“Fieuzal ranks among the best in Pessac-Léognan ~ Yves Beck”

“The 2019 Château de Fieuzal offers a complex nose, blending red and black fruits, crushed stone, and a hint of black truffle. Serious. The palate is beautifully balanced with firm, quite ‘robust’ tannins—a Pessac-Léognan built for the long term with a savory, almost salty finish. This is the best Fieuzal of recent years.” (Vinous 2023) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

For many years, this estate was renowned first and foremost for its white wine—one of the most well-rounded in Léognan—and later for its red, which, at its best, is one of the finest expressions of the Pessac-Léognan character. The past decade has seen the return of Fieuzal white to its former glory. The new, state-of-the-art cellars, equipped with numerous small tanks of varying capacities—made of concrete, stainless steel, or wood—now allow Stephen Carrier, the director, to craft wines of the highest caliber.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

About wine:

This wine is ripe and rich, with well-defined fruit. It has a full-bodied attack, with firm, assertive tannins. A truly impressive Fieuzal that starts off confidently and never strays from the mark. Chocolate shavings and notes of licorice contrast with slate and savory blackcurrant, illustrating Pessac’s tightrope walk between intensity and elegance. 2026–2040

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This classified growth, located in the very south of Léognan, produced some of Bordeaux’s finest white wines in the 1980s. After being sold to Banque Populaire in 1994, Fieuzal declined until 2001. That was the year Irish businessman Lochlann Quinn acquired it, then hired Stephen Carrier, originally from Champagne, as director. From then on, the estate regained its excellent standing, with a clear focus on body, structure, and tannic elegance in the reds, and freshness following the arrival of consultant Thomas Duclos. With some setbacks (2013) and major successes (2008), the whites are gradually regaining their full-bodied, intense character and aging potential.

About wine:

The richness of this wine is impressive and palpable. It combines blackcurrant fruit with spices, while maintaining firm tannins in the background. This beautiful combination means it will certainly age well. Best enjoyed starting in 2026.

About wine:

The 2019 Château de Fieuzal offers a complex nose, blending red and black fruits, crushed stone, and a hint of black truffle. Serious. The palate is beautifully balanced with firm, quite "solid" tannins; a Pessac-Léognan built for the long term with a savory, almost salty finish. This is the best Fieuzal of recent years. Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100

About wine:

Right from the start, Fieuzal’s bouquet stands out for its freshness, fruity character, and floral notes. Both the freshness and the fruity character are also present from the very first sip. The wine has character, a juicy structure, and fine tannins, gradually gaining body to assert itself gracefully on the finish. These elements are perfectly balanced by the wine’s acidity. Thus, these two elements impart freshness, fullness, and potential. They also underscore just how much Fieuzal belongs among the greats of Pessac-Léognan! 2024–2044

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is elegant and delicate, offering subtlety, a lovely silky quality, character, and a beautiful finesse of texture. It features notes of juicy, fresh blackberry and raspberry, along with lighter hints of crisp berries, combined with touches of iris, fresh lily, redcurrant, and mocha, as well as subtle, elegant varietal notes and hints of sweet spices and toast. A subtle, very discreet hint of fresh saffron (on the floral side). The palate is fruity, balanced, beautifully elegant, full of finesse and control, offering brilliance, lovely definition, richness, roundness, a certain power, and a richness full of finesse and control. This wine is perfectly balanced. It has creaminess, but with finesse rather than opulence or heaviness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, violet, fleshy/juicy redcurrants, and more subtly, lily and iris, combined with hints of fleshy red berries, toast, as well as subtle hints of tonka bean, cardamom, salty minerality, mocha, and a subtle hint of toast. The tannins are elegant and refined. Good length.

About wine:

On the nose, you’ll easily detect notes of chocolate, flowers, espresso, smoke, black cherries, and plums. The wine is fresh, vibrant, smooth, lush, chocolatey, and bursting with ripe berries. Give it a few years in the cellar and it will really start to shine. Best enjoyed between 2024 and 2038.
